ok ik im commenting too much bu if anyone cares, i think the song at the end explains how steven didn’t HAVE to open up to the diamonds and get them to change since he would still love himself and his friends even if they didn’t. But, he still decided to go one extra step further and show them how he is as Steven, not just a second-gen diamond. In turn, they ended up changing for the better and having their minds open to anything.
